Managerial Changes

Posted by bc57 on February 8, 2018 at 6:40 PM Comments comments (7)

Despite a win and a draw against two of the top teams in our division and a very good performance at Kilbirnie in the Scottish Cup in our past 3 games the club have taken the decision to part company with manager Paul Burns and his two assistants Sean McKenna and Liam Edward.

Paul stepped in after the departure in early season of John Brogan. I am sorry to see Paul leave as he has been a great servant to Lanark over the years.  Sean and Liam will be a loss to the playing squad.

An excellent result achieved with a depleted team against a team in good form who had the incentive of potentially going top of the league had they achieved a result against us.

The match saw the welcome return between the sticks of Gareth Hallford.

Stuart Annetts scored our goal on 15 minutes. We missed a number of opportunities to make the scoreline more comfortable but the team defended excellently to secure all 3 points.

Sean McKenna was excellent up front, Liam Edward h...

Lanark Utd 0 - 1 Dunipace

Lanark did more than enough to win this game however a catalogue of missed chances cost us dearly. Dunipace look an improved side and had a few chances as well before slotting home the winner with about 20 minutes to go. Referee disallowed a late Lanark goal for an infringement on the Dunipace keeper when in fact it was his own player who blocked him. Young keeper did well and we missed Ronan Kearney's pace however the team can't be faulted for effort.

Next Game : Lanark Utd v Dunipace Saturday 4th Nov.

League duty continues at 2pm with a home game at Moor Park. Hopefully Lanark can continue their recent good form and climb up the league.

Lanark 2 Dalkeith Thistle 1

Scottish Cup Day.

We kicked off as the underdogs according to the Turf Accountants who had us at 7/1 for a home win!

Buoyed by our landslide victory the week before Lanark took the game to our higher ranked opponents and gave as good as we got. Their keeper had the better saves to make although the best 2 chances fell to our opponents who shot wide from an excellent position and a chip hit the bar before Ronan Kearney put us 1 up after 40 minutes with a low drive from around 12 ya...

I was not in attendance but felt that this scoreline is well worthy of being reported upon.

Believe Ronan scored 6.

Vale of Leven 2 v LANARK 2 - 7th October at 2pm

An opportunity to keep our unbeaten run going, which we did with a 3rd draw on the bounce which will kill us, like last season.

Our longest away league trip but I like watching games at this venue.  Pitch was in great condition and my pie was good, served by a very nice lady..

Nothing between teams in first 30 mins then we lost 2 stupid goals in 3 minutes and went downhill from there for next 10. Cat had to make a couple of good saves during this period

Transfer News

Sorry to learn that our Player of the Year (IMO) Gareth Halford and the club have had a falling out. Worse still that he has signed for our nearest rivals Carluke. Clearly between the two parties but, will we get to hear what the problem was, if only the official version? Hopefully we will have some funds to invest as a consequence.

The young trialist with the hairdo that made a late appearance at St Ant's last week looked promising. Who is he, where has he been playing and will he retu...

LANARK 3 Gartcairn 3

2 points dropped against the league leaders but, ultimately we were happy to get the point with a scrambled equaliser by Peter O'Donnell in the 93rd minute which should have been ruled offside during the build up play.

2 weeks in a row we have equalised so late which is a trait to be happy with. However, we keep gifting team's goals.

They opened the scoring early on due to a daft handball by Stuart Annetts. We equalised through a well struck first half penalty by Shaun Gallagher ...
