Johnstone Burgh 1-5 Lanark

Posted by gavinalston31 on May 17, 2014 at 11:35 AM

Lanark made their place in the Central 1st Division safe with the last game of the season after a comprehensive win against relegated side Johnstone Burgh.

Lanark gave the hosts a head start, goalkeeper Daniel Tobin coming out to a ball on the right but not getting enough on it, the goal was exposed and the Johnstone striker finished well.

Lanark were level shortly after with a goal from Danny Burns, finishing well with his left foot from a tight angle. Liam Mushet hammered home inside the box just before half time to ensure Lanark went in ahead.

Lanark never looked back after the break and shortly after I had been slagging off "veteran" forward Kris Jarvie, I was silenced when he made it 3-1 to Lanark with an expert chipped goal. Danny Burns and then Kris Jarvie both scored again to complete their doubles and round off the game.

Lanark safe by the narrowest of margins over Cambuslang. Sloppy goals conceded have undoubtedly cost Lanark points throughout the course of the season, as well as a wee bit of bad luck with players injured. Players efforts can't be faulted over the season, will be interesting to see what happens over the summer, there will no doubt be some players going and some new faces as there are every year. At least we had excitement until the last game!

Well done to everyone involved in avoiding relegation by winning so comfortably today. We could easily have hit double figures today.

We have a young squad, with one or two exceptions. It would be great if they could be kept together to build on the experience of the last couple of seasons.

Thanks to Brian for being so communicative. This in itself has been helpful and helped build rapport.
Hope everyone at the club has a good summer and returns in the close season raring to go.

Cant argue with any of that, everything turned out well despite the early setback. Onwards and upwards for next season.
